I have a habit of collecting motivating quotes. When I see one that I like, I either write it down, save it to my phone, or actually print it out and post it up on a bulletin board in my office.
Motivating quotes are...motivating. And motivation is GREAT. It gets you fired up and in the mood to do something awesome. But...it isn't enough to keep you on the road to success.
Many people think they aren't achieving their goals because they are not motivated. Or they think that they need to keep seeking out motivation in order to lose weight, get in shape, eat better or whatever it is they are wanting to do.
Motivation (or lack thereof) is not the problem.
It is normal with anything in life to have strong motivation at times, and at other times...not so much.
Motivation comes. And it goes.
If you are relying on motivation to move you ahead with your goals, you are setting yourself up for failure.
Sure, motivation might help you get started. It might be motivation that starts you on a weight loss journey of eating healthier foods, or motivation might spark you into action to begin a new workout program. Motivation might awaken your desire to pursue a degree in something you are passionate about or to go after a new job. Motivation might get you pumped up to open a new business. Or to save money for a dream vacation.
But motivation doesn't stay. It NEVER does. It's there one day and gone another.
People who succeed are not successful because of motivation.
Successful people get the results because they work their asses off for something they really want even on the days (or months) when motivation is not there.
Success happens when you do what needs to be done even when you are not motivated. That means doing the things that are necessary to achieve your goal when you don't feel like it. Studying for school on days when you'd rather be out hanging out with friends. Going to the gym when you'd rather be on the couch eating pizza. Prepping your meals when you'd rather be watching TV or mindlessly scrolling through your social media news feeds.
We ALL have those days when we don't feel like it. If you really want that goal bad enough, you will suck it up and do it anyway. If you rely on motivation, you will never turn your dreams into reality.
Establish the habits needed to be successful at whatever it is you you want to achieve.
Understand this and you can achieve ANYTHING.
