"I get very hungry at work and I start eating everything. How do I stop them from bringing that stuff to work???"
And my reply was..."You DON'T stop them."
Control Yourself; Not Others
Instead of feeling powerless over your lack of control with coworkers bringing potato chips to work, or your spouse keeping oreos in the pantry, it helps to shift your power back over to yourself and control your own reaction to these situations.
I am not talking about having willpower of steel. You certainly CAN indulge in those snacks if you really want to have them on a particular day (and definitely SHOULD enjoy those things from time to time). Eating healthy does not mean eating perfectly. Certainly, indulging at the office by having a cupcake on someone's birthday, or munching on a handful of pretzels is totally fine, if that is what you decided to do that day.
I am referring to the times when you truly WANT to make an effort at eating well. Take action by arming yourself with defenses to protect your healthy eating intentions, by putting a plan in place that makes it WAY easier to stay on track.
Kickass Tips for Temptations
Try bringing enough satisfying, enjoyable healthy snacks to work, so when temptation strikes, you eat those things instead. Have these same snacks available in your home if your temptations are typically at home. This sounds so simple and obvious but it TRULY does work.
The added bonus to this strategy, is that when you stay away from junk food for awhile, (processed food that typically has lots of refined sugar, chemicals, and preservatives), you will start to lose your taste for it. I promise this is true because I have experienced this in my own life. Many years ago, I used to binge on donuts but now a tiny bite of one tastes artificial to me. Once I got in the habit of bringing healthy snacks with me to work, my temptations for the unhealthy snacks were minimized.

Instead, you shift your attention back to the internal variables you can control, which is how you react to the situation and how well you prepare yourself so that you are much less likely to give in to those temptations.
Maybe your coworkers will be inspired by your own healthy ways and eventually start bringing in veggies and fruit salad, but until that happens, you have the choice of either controlling your own reaction to the situation OR giving into the temptations and using it as an excuse to eat poorly.
